「島のえき」も、そのひとつです。
猫の管理や、訪れる人の受け皿として、
この場所が担っている役割があります。
だから、「島のえき」を途切れさせないことは、
この関係を続けていくうえで大切だと考えています。
しかし、建物の更新や維持など、
長期の視点で考えると、
島の中だけの経済では支えきれない現実があります。
これは「島のえき」だけでなく、
島で事業を営むあらゆる取り組みに共通する課題です。
そこでつくるのが、「ねこのとなり」です。
「ねこのとなり」は、
田代島の価値を島の外にも広げ、
この島の暮らしを支える仕組みです。

けれど、その受け取り方は人それぞれです。
猫と過ごした時間や、思い出、
誰かとの関係や、やさしい気持ち。
それぞれの中にある「ねこのとなり」が、
少しずつ違っていていいと思っています。
この場所を通して、
あなたにとっての「ねこのとなり」が
見つかったり、育っていくこと。
それが、私たちの願いです。
そして、その関わりがブランドとなり、
ビジネスとして動き、
田代島の暮らしや猫たちへと還っていきます。
そして、この循環を確かなものにするために、
ねこのとなりのビジネスで生まれた利益は、
すべて次の取り組みに充てていきます。
①「島のえき」を建て替え、拠点を残す
（近隣地への移転新築と、持続可能な運営体制の構築）
ねこのとなり事業から約3,500万円規模の充当を目標とします。
②田代島の猫たちを守る基盤を整える
（基金の積み立てと、サポート人材ネットワークの構築）
ねこのとなり事業から約5,000万円規模の積み立てを目標とします。
基金の運用により、猫のご飯代や治療費を賄い、
「終える」という選択をした場合でも、
今いる猫たちを見守り、最期まで責任を果たす備えとします。
③その先で、支援を必要とする猫たちへと広げていく
（地域猫支援の展開）
①および②の達成後は、
事業で生まれた利益を、
島内にとどまらず、猫たちへと還元していきます。

今後20年の中で段階的に実現していきます。

Neko no Tonari — By the Cat’s Side.
Life on Tashirojima exists through the relationship
between cats and the people who live here.
If either is missing, this landscape cannot continue.
This relationship is sustained by the daily lives of island residents,
the activities of those involved,
and several places and initiatives that support it.
“Shima no Eki” is one of them.
It plays an important role in caring for the cats
and welcoming visitors to the island.
For that reason, we believe that keeping “Shima no Eki” alive
is essential to sustaining this relationship.
However, when we take a long-term perspective,
including the renewal and maintenance of buildings,
we face the reality that the island’s internal economy alone
cannot support these needs.
This is not only a challenge for “Shima no Eki,”
but a shared issue for all businesses on the island.
That is why we are creating Neko no Tonari.
Neko no Tonari is a system that extends the value of Tashirojima
beyond the island,
and in doing so, supports life here.
To purchase is to support.
To be involved is to create value.
Through these relationships,
we aim to build a system that can continue without strain.
At the same time,
by connecting with the outside world,
we create livelihoods that support both
the cats and the people who live here.
There is one more important aspect.
Not only to continue,

What is Neko no Tonari?
It is a brand,
and at the same time, a way of thinking and being.
The stories of the cats who live on Tashirojima
take on different forms
and reach people through Neko no Tonari.
But what Neko no Tonari means
is not fixed.
It may be time spent with a cat,
a memory of a place,
a relationship with someone,
or a gentle feeling.
Each person’s Neko no Tonari
can be different.
Through this place,
we hope that your own Neko no Tonari
will be found and nurtured.
That is our wish.
And through each of these connections,
the brand takes shape,
moves as a business,
and returns value to the lives of the island
and its cats.
To make this cycle real and sustainable,
all profits generated by the Neko no Tonari business
will be allocated to the following initiatives.
1. Rebuild “Shima no Eki” and sustain a base on the island
(Relocation and new construction on a nearby site, and the establishment of a sustainable operational structure)
We aim to allocate approximately JPY 35 million from the “By the Cat’s Side” project for this purpose.
2. Build a foundation to protect the cats of Tashirojima
(Establishing a fund and a support network of people)
We aim to set aside approximately JPY 50 million from the “By the Cat’s Side” project.
Through the management of this fund, we will cover the costs of food and medical care for the cats.
Even if we choose to “bring this project to a close” in the future,
we will remain committed to caring for the cats who are here now,
ensuring we can look after them responsibly until the end of their lives.
3. Expand support to cats in need beyond the island
(Development of community cat support initiatives)
After achieving goals 1 and 2,
we will reinvest the profits generated by the project
back into supporting cats—
not only on the island, but beyond.
These priorities will be carried out step by step
over the next 20 years.
Value created outside the island
will be returned here.
Through this accumulation,
we aim to create both
a state that can continue
and a state that can be brought to a responsible end.
